I am a researcher, consultant, lecturer and speaker of adventure recreation and adventure tourism. My research focuses on understanding the experiences and behaviours of adventure participants. I am especially interested in the role of gender in adventure activities and the barriers to and benefits of adventure participation, including the potential to enable empowerment and foster greater wellbeing. I am also interested in sustainable adventure behaviour. More recently, my research has examined the marketing of adventure experiences, in particular, the adventure media’s representation of gender and how adventure participants represent themselves through user-generated content.

I love being outdoors – walking, climbing, running, road cycling, mountain biking and snowboarding – and travelling, which have inspired my area of research and guided my career from a snowboard instructor to an academic and researcher of adventure.
